The Teruel Airport terminal gains more than 800 square meters to respond to its growth

Teruel Airport took a key step towards its future development today with the inauguration of its terminal expansion. The event was attended by members of the Consortium's Governing Council, chaired by Councilor Octavio López, and coincided with the completion of works that double the facility's capacity and provide greater versatility to the building.

The project, which took 12 months to complete, was carried out by the joint venture (UTE) formed by Industria de Infraestructuras Ideconsa S.L. and Trauxia S.A., with a contract value of €1,590,244.58 (excluding VAT).

For Octavio López, the completion of this project "represents a new milestone for the main industrial airport in southern Europe, which is currently expanding and requires state-of-the-art terminal facilities that it has lacked until now. These facilities will enhance the airport's administrative capabilities and provide it with the services that an infrastructure employing a growing number of people deserves."

For her part, the mayor and vice-president of the Consortium, Emma Buj, emphasized that the expansion of the terminal building "parallels the business growth taking place at Teruel Airport, the city's largest employer, and what we are doing is creating facilities that meet the needs of the services it must provide to customers and employees."

The Managing Director, Alejandro Ibrahim, stated that "it is a source of pride to inaugurate this expansion, which doubles our operational capacity and equips Teruel Airport with cutting-edge infrastructure. This key step not only optimizes our administrative and catering services but also consolidates our growth as the city's largest employer and the leading industrial airport in Southern Europe."

OPERATIONAL OPTIMIZATION AND NEW SPACES
The new project involves expanding the building by two floors, adding a total area of 815.42 square meters. This project is designed to optimize the airport's operational efficiency, directly addressing the increased activity.

Among the main new features, the building will have a greater number of offices for both the Consortium's own use and its clients. A new 121-square-meter meeting and conference room has also been built—a multipurpose, modular space that can be partitioned with movable walls, allowing it to be divided into two or three rooms, depending on the operational needs at any given time. This space will be geared towards holding press conferences, meetings, lectures, or educational activities and will be equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.

BOOST TO CATERING SERVICES
The ground floor of the terminal building will house a new and complete catering area, which will soon be put out to public tender for the service concession. This space will include a 316.80 square meter dining room with a capacity for approximately 170 diners, a self-service area, a counter, as well as a fully equipped industrial kitchen with cold storage, a pantry, a washing area, and changing rooms.

EQUIPMENT CURRENTLY TENDERED
For the final opening of the new facilities, the contract for the supply and installation of the necessary furniture is currently in the bidding phase. It is expected that the furniture will be fully installed in the first months of 2027. The contract has been structured into five specialized lots:
• Lot 1: tables, chairs, cabinets, and drawer units for the offices and cafeteria.

• Lot 2: Movable melamine partitions for dividing the conference room.

• Lot 3: Vertical blinds and roller shades to regulate privacy and light.

• Lot 4: Audiovisual technology equipment, including 75-inch and 98-inch screens, wireless microphones, speakers, and video recording systems.

• Lot 5: Appliances for the industrial kitchen (dishwasher, 6-burner gas stove, fryer, griddle, and extractor hood).

"With this expansion, Teruel Airport consolidates its growth and ensures modern facilities prepared to efficiently handle the increasing demand from its users and clients," stated Octavio López, who noted that the tender budget exceeds €372,000 and that all this equipment is expected to be installed in the new space by the end of this year.

PROGRESS ON THE WORKS
Beyond the completion of the terminal expansion, Teruel Airport is in the midst of a broader expansion of its facilities. During today's board meeting, the managing director announced the start of construction on a new 1,500-square-meter building, with a budget of €1,130,050.32 (excluding VAT), for the Aerospace Technology Center that the airport will develop in conjunction with the Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA), strengthening its research, innovation, and testing capabilities in the sector.

The board also reported the completion of Phase V of the aircraft parking and storage apron, which will increase the airport's operational capacity, at a cost of €12,188,901.49 (excluding VAT).

Regarding the construction of the stratospheric airship production facility and hangar, the largest investment made to date by the Consortium, totaling €39.7 million, work is progressing on schedule, with the assembly of the metal frame, composed of 2,000 tons of steel, in its final phase. The new facility will be completed between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027 and will focus on the production of HAPS-type high-altitude airships with telecommunications and weather monitoring capabilities. Furthermore, IAC anticipates the completion of the second hangar around September.
