Teruel Airport was launched in 2013. In its first ten years of life it has experienced exponential growth, registering more than 18,000 operations, 82 million in investment and generating more than 350 jobs. We can affirm that it has established itself as one of the economic pillars of Aragon.
Since it entered into operational service ten years ago, the prestige and success of this facility has only been surpassed by the growth of its facilities, both in area and in innovation.
For this reason, it is essential for me to take advantage of this opportunity to thank the decision of people like Simón Casas who based the development model on something that was totally different from what was being done in other Autonomous Communities, thinking of an airport for industrial activity instead of putting the accent on the passengers, which was the aspiration of almost any city in Spain.
From that moment on, during these eight years of leadership, success has been in the responsible management of this infrastructure, betting on the development of aeronautical innovation activities and for this four keys have been very important: the agreement within the Consortium between both administrations, the promotion of the creation of infrastructures based on the demand for business activity, the promotion and support of Teruel society towards this infrastructure and the co-financing of the Airport through the Teruel Investment Fund (FITE).
At this time we can also boast of a unique milestone within airport infrastructure: Teruel Airport will have the only hangar in Spain for two A380 aircraft, to date the largest commercial passenger plane in the world.
Without haste, but without pause, the project does not stop and continues to grow, through a Plan of General Interest of Aragon an extension of the surface of 195 hectares is planned, which will suppose the doubling of the current parking spaces.
As the phrase “the sky is the limit” says, we still have challenges ahead. It is impossible to imagine how far the development of this infrastructure whose growth is exponential will go. Among the most immediate challenges, completing the complete aircraft maintenance and recycling cycle, continuing to develop space technology, boosting the entire industry linked to drones and airships. A whole series of activities that will generate thousands of jobs and, therefore, economic development and opportunities, both for Teruel and Aragon.
Teruel International Airport is an industrial-aeronautical HUB, located on the EUROPEAN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY, and it is recognized as the aeronautical platform of Teruel, PLATA.
The hub is ideal for its industrial-aeronautical capabilities with the following characteristics that define it unique:

In addition, PLATA is well known for its leadership and expertise in maintenance, MRO, parking and recycling for aircraft and helicopters. PLATA is also endeavoring new business for executive and general aviation, UAV-RPA research & developments, and other aerospace activities.
Moreover, it is noteworthy the modern airport infrastructure, its flexible features allowing in future the possibility to expand to passenger traffic and air cargo, as an alternative development for the Airport.
PLATA offers exceptional economical operating conditions for those companies willing to establish at the airport to carry out any aeronautical activity. The Consortium has advantages packages for landing fees, rental of camp, hangar rental and possibility to sale industrial land.
