The Regional Minister for Public Works, Housing, Logistics, and Territorial Cohesion and President of the Teruel Airport Consortium, Octavio López, announced today the completion of construction on the Phase III parking apron, which will accommodate up to four more B-733 aircraft and one more for larger A-380 and B-747 aircraft. This project adds 34,650 square meters to the 99,000 square meters already in operation.
The new space, built by the joint venture Trauxia S.A.-Industria de Servicio Ideser S.A.U. For a total of €2,120,408.51 (VAT excluded), this represents a commitment to fostering growth in the international aeronautical industry and improving competitiveness, strengthening Teruel Airport's current position as a center of excellence in the maintenance, painting, parking, and recycling sector, covering the entire aircraft lifecycle.
Octavio López noted that "the expansion of the parking apron, which began in mid-September 2024 and has lasted more than six months, is a response to the growth process Teruel Airport is undergoing, which requires investments to scale its facilities," as is the case with this apron, which has expanded its paved surface by 210 meters in length and 165 meters in width.
The Vice President of the Consortium and Mayor of Teruel, Emma Buj, pointed out that, today, Teruel Airport "is the most important company in the city of Teruel, and in the coming years it will become even more so, not only in the city itself, but also in many surrounding municipalities that are growing thanks to the airport." For this reason, Buj added, it is "so important for Teruel City Council to move forward with the General Urban Development Plan and also with the urban development agreements we are already working on to generate housing in our city."
WORKS IN PROGRESS
Regarding the rest of the projects currently underway, the construction of the hangar and production facility for stratospheric airships, a project awarded to the joint venture formed by Aldesa Construcciones and Industria de Infraestructuras Ideconsa for a value of 39.7 million euros and which began last February, is currently in the earthworks phase, and the paving work on Phase V of 70 hectares intended for long-stay aircraft parking is progressing according to schedule and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Finally, the expansion of the terminal building to provide more office space, a restaurant area, and a meeting room will begin in a few weeks for a value of 1,590,244.58 euros (excluding VAT) and is expected to be completed within one year.
AN AIRPORT FOR THE DEFENSE HUB
The regional minister and president of the Consortium once again emphasized today that the Teruel industrial airport is "an important element in the defense hub being generated in Aragon, a territory with great military, logistical, industrial, technological, and energy potential."
In this regard, Octavio López noted that Europe plans to invest 800 billion euros over the next four years to strengthen its defense system, which represents "an opportunity for Aragonese industry, and it is our duty to ensure that part of these investments come to our territory, because we are positioned and prepared for it," he concluded.
