"Teruel Airport is, today, a top-tier business ecosystem where some fifteen companies operate, generating wealth, creating jobs, and contributing unprecedented reputational value to Teruel and the entire province." With these words, the President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, highlighted the importance of Europe's leading industrial airport, which this Wednesday was the site of yet another milestone: the laying of the foundation stone for the second hangar of the multinational company International Aerospace Coatings (IAC), dedicated to aircraft painting.

During his speech, Azcón stated that the investment committed to Teruel Airport over the last two years amounts to approximately €160 million. This includes €60 million invested by the Airport Consortium, comprised of the regional government and the Teruel City Council; €42 million announced by the Minister of Defense for the establishment of the Comprehensive Air Training and Mobility Center; €10 million for the future ITA research laboratory; and private investment from companies such as AIR (Aviation International Recycling), which will create an aeronautical material recycling center (€30 million), and IAC itself (€20 million for the second hangar).

Azcón, who described Teruel Airport as "a success story," attributed the recent growth of this infrastructure to the good understanding between institutions and public-private collaboration: "Thanks to this, the 850 direct and 1,700 indirect jobs that this airport currently generates will increase significantly in the coming years, reaching and exceeding 1,200 workers sooner rather than later. This presents an opportunity to curb depopulation and compels us to address challenges such as housing."

Jorge Azcón participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new IAC hangar, along with the company's CEO, the board member and president of the Teruel Airport Consortium, Octavio López, and the mayor and vice-president of the Consortium, Emma Buj.

"My thanks and congratulations to IAC for the start of construction on this second hangar where large aircraft will be repaired," said Azcón, who predicted that "you will continue to reap business successes that will reinforce the strategic position of this airport, to which, thanks to you and other companies, planes from the world's leading airlines will continue to arrive to once again take to the skies in perfect condition."

"A new hangar for 30 aircraft per year

The new IAC hangar will be completed in the last quarter of 2026 and will be dedicated to painting large aircraft, known as twin-aisle aircraft. It will be a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest technology in paint application and environmental protection, with the capacity to handle 30 aircraft per year. The Irish multinational will invest €20 million in the project and create 70 direct jobs.

IAC is a world leader in aircraft painting and aeronautical services and has ten cutting-edge facilities in Europe and the United States, where it manages more than 800 projects annually. The company has been operating at Teruel Airport since February 2024."
