The Teruel Airport Consortium continues to take firm steps in its Strategic Plan 2024-27, and that is why work has begun on the phase V parking lot at its facilities. This is the largest extension of the parking lot, located in the PIGA area, and will allow 70 large aircraft to be parked in the new area.
The work began at the end of September 2024, and was awarded to the UTE EXCAVACIONES HNOS. DE PABLO S.L - VIALEX CONSTRUCTORA ARAGONESA S.L. - EMIPESA S.A. with a term of execution of 15 months, with its completion scheduled for the end of December 2025. The award amount is 12,080,179.87 euros (VAT excluded). The start-up deed was signed on September 23, 2024.
The Health and Safety Plan, the Operational Safety Surveillance Plan, the Waste Management Plan, the Quality Plan and the updated construction plan have already been drawn up, in addition to the opening of the work centre and the enabling of the subcontracting book. Within the administrative process, the start of the work has been communicated to the CHJ and Highways of the Government of Aragon.
Since the start of the work 2 weeks ago, the 10 workers currently present have carried out the compaction of the storage area, as well as the installation of the construction sheds. The first months of the work will consist mainly of clearing the land and moving earth, planned until March 2025. Once this process is finished, an increase in activity and the number of workers is expected, with an average of 50 workers per day expected to be reached.
Regarding the more specific characteristics of the work, the same structure will be followed as in the previous 4 phases of the parking lot:
- Construction of taxiways with flexible surfaces and parking areas with rigid surfaces.
- The most active part of the work is the paving with about 16,000 m³ of concrete and about 20,000 tons of asphalt.
- An access road to the apron from the platform will be built.
- A drainage system with perimeter channels, which will be connected to wells and concrete collectors, as well as a diversion of water to hydrocarbon and grease separation plants, in order to avoid the increase in flow of the existing ravines.
- The perimeter fencing of the new areas will be carried out and a new perimeter camera system will be installed, thus increasing the security of the airport facilities.
- Expansion of essential service networks, such as drinking water, sanitation and telecommunications.
